Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics

The principal focus of the New Hampshire Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by regulating the practices of Professional Barbers, Cosmetologists, Estheticians, Manicurists and Tanning. The Board qualifies and licenses individuals and businesses, establishes and enforces administrative rules and laws, and provides information so that the public may make informed decisions.

Press Release: Telephone Scam Targets NH Shop Owners  pdf file

Attention Shop Owners: The NH Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, & Esthetics  will never call your shop and ask for credit card information to perform an inspection. You may be a target of a scam if you receive calls like this.  Please report suspicious calls to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Bureau at 1-888-468-4454. Thank you.

Attention Licensees: Microblading in not within the scope of practice for barbers, cosmetologists, estheticians, or manicurists. You must be a licensed tattoo artist to perform microblading.

Shops and Licensees pdf file

As of August 20, 2016, estheticians may perform natural nail manicures only with proper training. Temporary permits will be valid for 60 days. Shampoo assistants will no longer require licensure. Persons employed as shampoo assistants in a licensed shop who perform the functions of shampooing, rinsing and removing rollers or perm rods, and rinsing treated or untreated hair are now exempt from licensure.

Estheticians pdf file

As of March 14, 2016, estheticians are not allowed to perform microneedling/dermarolling services. The Board has determined that these services are not within the scope of practice for estheticians.
